Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
A tragic accident on the airport-bound flank of the Ultadanga flyover in Kolkata has claimed two young lives and left two others battling for survival. The incident occurred around 5:42 am when four young men, reportedly returning from a birthday celebration, lost control of their speeding motorcycle and crashed into the flyover’s gardening area.
According to police sources, none of the riders were wearing helmets at the time of the accident. The impact of the crash was so severe that all four were flung off the flyover, landing on the bridge surface in a bloodied and critically injured state. Emergency responders rushed them to the hospital, but two of them were declared dead on arrival.
The deceased and the injured individuals have been identified as residents of the Beniapukur police station area. They had attended a birthday party earlier in the night and were reportedly headed towards the airport from Kolkata when the accident happened.
Initial investigations suggest that the combination of excessive speed, lack of helmets, and possible fatigue from the night-long celebration contributed to the horrific crash. One of the bikes involved was a high-speed bullet motorcycle, which reportedly hit the flyover railing before the riders were thrown off.
The two survivors are currently undergoing treatment in critical condition. Their identities have not been formally released, pending notification of family members.
Police have launched a probe into the incident and are also checking CCTV footage to verify the speed and sequence of events. Authorities have once again urged citizens to wear helmets and avoid reckless driving, especially during late-night and early-morning hours when visibility and alertness are compromised.
